Jumping on the band wagon... Meal plan this week

Well gosh, if everyone's doing it :) Let me know if you want any of the recipes

Wednesday: Macaroni (my dad's special recipe, but I didn't have about half the ingredients, so it wasn't quite the same)

Thursday: Leftover beans and rice

Friday: Alfredo (we had leftover cream from Jonathan's birthday, so this is how I'm using it up) and broccoli, (the broccoli was super expensive, so we'll probably have canned veggies)

Saturday: Leftovers (We're going to a super cool festival, so who knows if we'll even be home for dinner)

Sunday: Crock pot beef stew

Monday: Tacos - chicken, bell peppers, onions, cilantro, with lime rice and possibly homemade re-fried beans

Tuesday: Leftovers

I just have to say, produce prices right now are insane! If I find anything under a dollar a pound I get excited! Apples right now are close to two dollars a pound! They are even coming into season! Gosh... I also think half of my shock is because I'm used to stores in Provo (Rancho markets, and Buy low) that had something for several pounds for a dollar. Any suggestions on how to still eat fruits and veggies without paying an arm and a leg for them would be much appreciated.

  1. I think I need your crock pot beef stew recipe... and then I need a bigger crock pot.:) And produce prices are getting way out of control! I was shopping a few weeks ago and there was a lady saying, "We used to eat healthy, but now it's too expensive so now we eat junk." I wish fresh produce would always stay inexpensive. I'll definitely miss good ol' cheap Provo prices.

  2. Mmmm. Looks so good. I'm still working on how to save money on groceries. It's one of my biggest financial frustrations. I've found that Pick-Your-Own places are a very good deal. Farmers markets are great, as well as roadside stands. Sometimes they are open to bartering if you tell them it's not a better enough deal compared to the supermarkets, but if you buy a lot of stuff, they're more open to shaving off a dollar or two. Be sure to have cash on you. Last year we bought a whole box of almost 100 apples and they stayed good for months in the cold garage. You could try to split a box with a family or two. Also, do you have ALDI grocery stores where you are? If you have one close by, check it out. We've just recently started going to ours, and they have some things priced 1/2 off our regular store's.

Here's a link to a farmer's market in your town:

I'd love to hear if any of this works out for you!
