Although I have only been in our house for a few days there are things I already love. There were also things that I have been looking forward to loving for a long time.
I love:
That I can walk out my front door into my yard/ground level - When we were cleaning the house before we moved in, we make a grocery sized bag full of garbage, and Jonathan ran it out to the big garbage can. When he came back in, he said "guess how many flights of stairs I had to go down to get to the garbage?"
Our dishwasher - nuff said. (ok, maybe not. I love that our dirty dishes don't have to be on our counter top waiting to be cleaned, and the clean ones that are drying aren't on the counter. It makes for a much less cluttered looking kitchen)
The feeling of ownership - This is our house, so I have a responsibility to make it clean, welcoming, and all that. I think I may have mentioned that it felt good to be washing my walls, and not some landlord's walls.
OUR GARAGE! - Guess where our car is parked? Ya! In our garage! No more burning my hands on a hot steering wheel, and no more scraping ice/snow off the windows in the winter! Also, Jonathan wondered out loud where to put his bike... ya, in the garage. It's out of sight (less likelihood of it being stolen) out of the elements etc. ALSO... All the stuff we stored in our closets before - like our Christmas Tree, luggage, and our packed winter clothes - is all in the garage now. That means our closets have space for things they are supposed to be filled with.
Our yard - I haven't used this one yet, but I'm sure it will be awesome once we do. We were talking today about having people over - like families with kids - and we can do that now, because we have a place they can play. Exhibit A -- one of the girls that Visit Teaches me has a very active 3 year old. In the past it's been really hard to have her visit me without it going poorly, because the 3 year old spends the entire time exploring my space and getting into things he wasn't supposed to (which always ends in the mom getting frustrated and leaving earlier than she would like, and not really being able to visit because she's chasing after her kid so much). Well, now when she visits me, we can go outside and he can run around while we actually talk and have a lesson! Wahoo!
Our Washer and Dryer - I haven't used this yet either, but it will be nice!
** I forgot one thing** Central Air - Oh man! This is such a wonderful thing! I love being able to walk into the back part of our house and not have the temperature rise 10 degrees! (our apartment just has one small AC unit in the front far end of the apartment, so the bedrooms seriously get so hot! The last night we slept there we pulled our bed out to the front room and left the AC on all night.) I also love that our house doesn't smell like stagnant air (I think that's the right phrase,)
I love our house. I'm sure the honeymoon faze will not last too long, but I am loving it now.
I am so excited for you guys -- you will love it forever with fondness - even though you may not stay for years... because it is your very first home!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that Jonathan even has an air conditioned man-cave work shop where he can make stuff and fix stuff and put his tools and stuff!!!
